Ever since the initial trial testing for the 5G network kicked off in 2014, a lot of hype has been surrounding it. Tech giants are excited for what this new network could offer to them and their customers. Therefore, it was only a matter of time before the logo would be created. And even though the next wave of mobile phones might be years away, 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project), which oversees cellular communications standards, has had the foresight to come up with its branding early.
Take a look at the new logo design for 5G which is a data network that is to supersede 4G in 2018.
The logo has been approved by telecoms standards organization 3GPP, the logo itself is distinct from the previous branding of 4G network. Though the 4G network had been similar in design, slight changes to the shapes of the waves have been made to set it apart from its predecessors. The waves used in previous logos had a much more rounded appearance towards the end whilst the new 5G logo has a more square shape. Apart from that, the color of the logo has been changed. Though the network 5G has been written in black, the waves have been borrowed from the existing LTE logo and its green colored waves sets it apart from the previous ones.
Take a look at how the new logo has evolved from the others:
The logo will actually be used initially on 3GPP 5G specifications from Release 15 onwards which are slated to be completed in 2018 and then 5G Phase 2 specs which will be completed in 2020. The 3GPP has a set of rules for partners and vendors who wish to use the logo for their products and services which means that we might not be able to see it anytime soon.
